Members are speaking out! Watch these videos of fellow MAPE members talking about the unfair situations they experience and that the Bargaining Team made proposals to fix.
Please watch this video about contingent hire employees. Did you know:
- The County pays nothing for retirement for our members who are contingent hire employees. Just like all County employees, the County does not pay Social Security for contingent hire employees.
- The County pays nothing for health care for most of our members who are contingent hire employees.
- Many contingent hire employees work regularly. Some work year after year after year, yet no retirement and no health care.
Please watch this video about part-time employee benefits, or the lack thereof. Did you know:
- MAPE members who are part-time employees and whose Full-time Equivalent (FTE) is less than 0.75 are not in our retirement system? That means when they retire they will not have a guaranteed monthly retirement benefit and retiree medical and dental benefits.
- The County only pays 3% of their salary into a deferred compensation plan for these employees and that it has only done so since 2021, when we were finally able to get the County to pay something for retirement for these employees?
- The amount the County pays for health care for part-time employees is based upon their FTE, not the hours they work? Many of our part-time members regularly work more hours than their FTE.
Please watch this video explaining how current overtime rules affect Marin County employees. The video features Erick Morales, a Marin County Parks worker whose extra hours during a wildland fire were paid at straight-time due to how overtime is calculated when sick leave is used.
